A very charming and well-furnished courtyard separates the two sides.The entrance to Casa Gatos is enchanting. An impressive stonewall and garden gate protect the tranquility and privacy of guests. A small goldfish and turtle pond greets you as you enter the patio area. The large two-bedroom unit offers almost 2,250 square feet of living space. The design is fresh and incorporates natural stone and tropical hardwoods. Marble floors bring a little elegance to this comfortable and attractive space. The lower level consists of a very large and well-equipped kitchen, dining area and large living area. Full-length windows let in lot of light and offer a nice field of view over the green of the courtyard. The lower level guest room is furnished with a double bed and a large and interesting bath. A stairway of tropical hardwood will take you to the roof top observatory where you can watch the ocean and the stars. On the second level you will find the principal bedroom with king bed, single bed and private bath. Casa Gatos was a beautiful house set behind gorgeous gates and surrounded by stunning gardens. We also had rented a house on the lagoon, so we were able to enjoy the best of both worlds. I would highly recommend vacationing here.
joaquim, the gardener, is esp nice. we enjoyed visitng w/ him. he's worked there for 10 years. he was also helpful as far as info on akumal. manuela(?), the maid, was also very nice and professional.
The unit was beautifully decorated and immaculate and the staff were pleasant and very helpful. Not directly on the beach but a short walk to great snorkeling. My senior citizen parents still rave about it. We would definitely go back.
We took our adult children with us on our return visit to Akumal, and Casa Gatos was the perfect place to stay. A great location with easy access to the beach - yet a place to have complete privacy. The accommodations are beautiful and comfortable, the staff friendly and helpful, and the price far below the cost of properties only a couple of blocks away. I recommend Casa Gatos to any family or group of adults.
We loved the property and we have stayed in each of the units. You do need a car, or at least we did because we were there so long. We did a lot of cooking so we had to go to Playa del Carmen for groceries. Then we spent every day in Tulum at the beach. We found the people who stayed in the other units were always friendly. You could decide how much time you wanted to associate with them. The worst thing was the pitiful condition of the road to the house, of course the condition would not change wherever you would chose to stay in Akumal.
