NEWLY REMODELED AND TASTEFULLY DECORATED, 508 is one of the nicest condos at Mauna Loa Shores. Why stay in a hotel when for about the same rate you can have 2 bedrooms, a new kitchen, and your own private outdoor lanai less than 5 miles from downtown? Start with a bit of Tommy Bahama, throw in an...view full description Asian splash or two, and add some teak and bamboo furnishings and accents and you have just described the decor of this very comfortable and enjoyable place to stay in Hilo.
THE OWNERS WANTED TO HAVE THE NICEST CONDO for their guests, and they kept comfort in mind with lots of seating, good lighting, and upgraded amenities including new kitchen appliances, cable TV, DVD player, and high-speed Internet access. You can keep the sliding glass door from the living area to the lanai open all day long because the lanai (balcony) is completely screened, extending your living space with seating for 4 while looking out at the view. The owner's daughter loves animals, so the second bedroom with twin beds is themed with carved giraffes, dolphins, and other exotic creatures.
ON MOST DAYS YOU CAN SEE STEAMING KILAUEA, our active volcano, from your front door! You can swim in the large pool at Mauna Loa Shores or next door at Carlsmith Park. The park is a popular place to get into the water in protected lagoons and experience the ocean in Hawaii in a different way from the beaches. It is a very picturesque setting and we never get tired of the beauty this place has to offer.
THE MAUNA LOA SHORES CONDOMINIUM COMPLEX has a secured elevator and you have an assigned parking space. There is a coin-operated washer/dryer available on every floor of the complex for your convenience. We are happy to confirm non-smokers only in this condo.

A guest from Virginia Beach, VA recommends this
property.Stayed 4 days in
August, 2009When you first drive up to the Mauna Loa Shores Condo building, you'll think it's a dive. But once you see the interior of unit 508, your mind will be completely changed. The photos on the website are accurate. Great furnishings, tasteful decor, beautiful view from the screened lanai, plenty of supplies, convenient location, nice pool, easy access to private beaches. It's everything you could want and more. We spent more time away from the condo than in it. Here are several helpful suggestions for improvement: lanai door and front kitchen windows need locks; we could not unlock right window in master bedroom; not all light switches turned on a light or a fan--a bit confusing; make sure all light bulbs are working; not all towels/linens felt freshly laundered; bad odor from bathroom drains. Please don't misinterpret this review. These suggestions are meant to be helpful. We truly enjoyed our stay at this condo and are glad that we had the opportunity to use it.

June, 2009The building itself was a bit shabby but the room was nice. I did miss having a dishwasher.

April, 2009My family and I were appalled at the condition of the Mauna Loa building. The stucco was crumbling and stained and the concrete walkways were sagging! I would not stay there again nor would I recommend it to anyone.
