September, 2009We reserved four nights. Workmen were at the house across the way using power saws one day and then a jackhammer the next. We had to get out of the house, not just for fun and exploration, but because the noise was awful. We decided to reserve something else so we would enjoy our vacation. We did enjoy one morning by the pool without workmen for a few hours, and then they came next door with wheelbarrows rolling through. That was the only morning we enjoyed the house and the pool. That said about the pool, the lawn chairs are falling apart and need to be replaced.
Regarding privacy: When I reserved, I told Su and/or Tara how excited we were for this PRIVATE pool that our friends had told us about--one could go in nude with trees all around!! Even when I told them that, no one volunteered that the trees must have been cut and the pool was no longer private!! I would have appreciated that candor. We would appreciate at least a night refund for the night we left early, the noise, and the not private pool. We let the house cleaner KC know that we were leaving early.

May, 2009We had a wonderful time staying at Lagoon House II! It's situated in a gated community where people are friendly, kind & courteous. Many homes there, have their own lagoons also. The only bad thing that happened to us was: an incident where a suspected construction worker accidentally hooked the phone/ internet line that ran across the road, connecting to the side of the house. This situation brought down our phone & internet connections from about 6:00 pm on a week night. Whoever did it, - just left the damage & did not contact anyone to apologize and/ or repair. We arrived home from a day of sightseeing to find the damage. We called the property manager & they took care of the situation immediately, & we were up & running the following morning!
We loved the lagoon in the front yard, & fed the fish frozen peas which they really enjoy. The sounds of frogs & other nocturnal animals at night was fun. Also, every night - having the trade winds gently blowing in from the ocean, along with the sound of the ocean waves lulled us into gentle slumber. The community has a series of public beaches, each having star qualities. We'd highly recommend this home as a vacation rental to anyone that wishes to go to the Big Island of Hawaii.

We are so sorry to hear that you fell ill on your vacation! There is a great deal of speculation about various contaminants in the waters at the ponds and tidepools of Kapoho. To help put people's fears to rest, we do have the water tested at Lagoon 2 regularly by Pololei Labs, and the water at Lagoon 2 has always tested as perfectly safe for swimming and snorkeling. The ponds and lagoons are all connected to the ocean underground and are constantly filtered by the tide, which keeps contaminants in most ponds near or at ocean level. The Hawaii Department of Health monitors conditions at public beaches around the state, and, unlike many other public beaches, the waters surrounding Kapoho test at 0% in excess of safe levels. The most recent report can be found on the Natural Recourses Defense Council site, at NRDC dot org (sorry - can't enter URLs in these comments). In the search box on their home page, you can type in Hawaii Water, and you'll get the "NDRC: Testing the Waters 2008: Hawaii" report. The data for Kapoho appears about 1/4 of the way down on page 3.

December, 2008Hello, I brought mainland family to the hot ponds........with the liquid sunshine. It was good, and I will do this again. Four things would improve the property though: 1) the coffee maker has one of those tops that lets you pull out the pot before it is done, it has disconnected, and thus, does not drain properly. 2) the propane stove has issues, it did get hot, although it took a long time at 500 degrees, and there was a gas smell. 3) The mattress in the pull out couch needs replacement. 4) I would have acouple of singe fold up futon mats around, just for extra.
Outside of these few miniscule details, all was good. Mahalo.

November, 2008The house was generally clean and in good shape and met our expectations. There were three deficiencies that need to be addressed: 1. Upon arrival, many of the dishes and pots and pans were not clean. 2. Several of the frying/saute pans were very beat up as well as dirty; e.g. non-stick coating flaking off. 3. The charcoal grill was broken (wheel fell off, upper vent cover was missing, ash cleaning lever rusted shut, grill itself was dirty and flimsy-obviously a cheap replacement part).
